Boulder High School Students: Check Out Independent Motors’ Auto Repair Scholarship

October 26th, 2015

Some exciting news from our sister company, Independent Motors, a Boulder car repair institution since 1983: The team at Independent Motors has created a $1,000 scholarship just for Boulder-area high school students who would like to pursue a career in automotive technology.
This Boulder auto repair scholarship applies to graduating local high school students — this includes students in Longmont, Lafayette, Louisville and other nearby communities — and will go toward studies at Front Range Community College’s Auto Mechanic program in the fall of 2015.
Click the link above to apply. To be eligible, you must have a GPA of at least 2.0 upon graduation, and the Independent Motors team asks that you submit an essay explaining why you think you would be a good fit for the program.
Applications will be accepted through April 30, and a decision will be made in May so that funds can be made available for the fall semester.
A Front Range’s A.A.S. in Automotive Technology degree can help any student seeking to become a Boulder car repair technician — or a tech anywhere in the country. “This A.A.S. degree provides students with entry-level technical skills to test, diagnose, and repair the complex mechanical, chemical, and electronic equipment found in today’s automobiles,” the college’s course organizer writes.
This is a two-year, 74-hour program that grants the graduate 9 automotive certificates in addition to the associate’s degree.
The Colorado Dept. of Labor & Employment estimates that an entry level Boulder auto repair professional starts out earning just above $24,000, but with experience, a good technician can command a salary right at the $50,000 mark.
If you know someone would be interested in this opportunity, please pass along the above link to them. The more applicants, the better.
